Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everybody!

Just a quick post for the occasion: I wanted to share a photo of my favorite Halloween costume from when I was a kid. My mom was great at Halloween. Each year, she would take us to the fabric store to look through patterns, and we could be practically anything we wanted. "Practically" being an important word here, since she would sometimes guide us away from certain costumes for reasons like that they wouldn't be warm enough for the end of October in New England. She's really quite good at sewing (she also made me lots of dresses when I was little), and my cool costumes included the Little Mermaid, Jasmine from Aladdin, a squirrel, and a stegosaurus (the swinging, spiky stuffed tail was awesome). But looking back my favorite costume would have to be my lobster costume. I actually wore it two years, I think when I was both 9 and 12. The second time, my little brother dressed as a chef.

The costume actually came up in blog conversation at one point, and it was requested that I post pictures. Now, finally, here it is. (Happy, Seb?)

Sorry about the poor quality. I scanned it in from the photo album when I was at my parents' house. But can you make out the little legs hanging on the sides? This is from the first Halloween that I wore the costume.

Hope everyone has a fun, spooky, happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, hope you have a great one and rep wildlife as spectacularly as you did in that lobster.

What just happened to me? Wow, that video is amazing. The most baffling thing I've seen in a while.

Haha, I think the last time I used colored letters was way back on Valentine's Day. I usually forget that there are even color options, until a holiday with a clear color palette rolls around.

haha cute!

my mom always made our Halloween costumes too since she likes sewing. Each year we'd discuss what I wanted to be and then we'd go to the fabric store to see if there was a pattern that would work. I remember I was a pink princess one year, the Little Mermaid another year and there was a clown costume she made that I wore for 2 years. I want to say there were a few others, but those are the only ones I remember. I wasn't allowed to be anything "scary" like a witch, vampire or anything "evil" looking.

Sounds like you had fun Halloweens. I'm sure little Jay will have adorable costumes, too :)

I was a pink princess twice--two different costumes, but both were pink (one was a bit more magenta, though). I don't ever remember being something scary, but I have to say there are two years in middle school that I really can't remember what I was, which is driving me crazy. I'll have to consult the family photo albums when I go home at Christmas to refresh my memory.

I don't think I've partaken in the Halloween festivities since... hrm... two years ago I guess. The Gay Cowboy. Fun times...

Adorable get-up! But, alas, my curiousity is anything but sated: now I demand to see Princess Jasmine. I bet you were MEGA cute.

Oh dear, well you'll have to wait again to see a photo of Jasmine. It was a pretty good costume, but not as cool as the lobster.

I just watched the most recent How I Met Your Mother, and it featured a Halloween party where a rather pathetic character was dressed as a red lobster. Who knew they were so popular? My costume is cuter, though.

For obvious reasons, I have always avoided dressing up as a lobster.

So cute! And your brother dressed as a chef too must have been lots of fun :)

Seb, you would make a great lobster!

Vanessa - Yeah, he was pretty cute. He carried around a big pot to collect candy, instead of our usual plastic pumpkins, but it got a bit heavy.
