Snorkeling in Sharks Cove - Video

Tuesday's photos post tells you everything you need to know about my snorkeling outing in Sharks Cove on the North Shore of O'ahu. The video is pretty self-explanatory, with some annotations added for the fish that I could identify. Keep an eye out for the OCTOPUS!

Watch it in 720p HD if you like.

... I'm totally going to have to lose some weight and work on my figure so that you can take me snorkelling :)

Great! Have you done much snorkeling before? I think of it as a relatively easy, relaxing activity. Do you float well?

No -- well, just once, many years ago. And I ended up sucking a ton of water down the pipe... which wasn't very pleasant :P

I haven't swum in ages -- but when I did, I was very good. I could tread water for 20 minutes!

Now I'm a flabby, amorphous, atrophic lump. I think I float just fine...

Well floating is definitely useful when snorkeling, since it means you can just sort of hover there and observe the fish. Not very strenuous. And I don't know what gear you were using when you went snorkeling, but I know that today's snorkels are much better than the ones I remember using when I was younger. There's a valve at the bottom near the mouthpiece which makes it very easy to clear the snorkel of water (you don't have to shoot it out the top), and there are various splash protectors at the top (it's not just an open tube) that work quite well at keeping water from splashing in. If you go somewhere with small waves, you shouldn't have a problem with the snorkel filling.
