Playing with the new camera: On the beach, little things

On the beach at Haleiwa ("hah-leh-EE-vah"), I didn't just take scenic photos. Gotta appreciate the little things, too.

A bit of coral on the beach. Testing out my camera's macro capabilities.

An underwater shot of a bunch of different types of algae, just off shore

Little snails hide out to avoid dessication in the intertidal zone.

My mom said this looked like a mini-Mordor. And she wonders how I turned out to be such a geek.

I pressed a half shell into my finger. I guess I had nothing better to do.

Again, I was sitting on the beach with nothing better to do. But that piece of coral that looks like his head was really cool. How could I not put something like this together?

I'll have some sunset-on-the-beach photos on Friday.

Being a Gamera fan, I have to say I like turtles. Good job! Totally liking your camera also. What kind is it?

Those are really nice shots! I almost bought one of those waterproof cameras, but they can't go deep enough for diving. I really like the first picture of the coral. It's gorgeous!

Hi DarkShinobi - Haha, I should have made a ferocious turtle instead. My camera is a Panasonic Lumix TS2.

Hi Dawn - Thanks! Yeah, these cameras are great for snorkeling, they're easy and not cumbersome at all. But I do plan on getting scuba certification at some point, and once I go down below 33 feet, I'll need a camera with heavy duty housing.

Somehow, that turtle is mind-blowingly adorable.

I thought he was cute. I should have saved all the pieces, so I could take him on adventures (photograph him in different locations, like the garden gnome thing). I did keep the head piece, at least.

Cool photos.

Thanks :) I think I've been having too much fun with it. Took a lot of meaningless shots those first few days.

The turtle is cute! ^^
Your mom is right, gotta be nice to have a geeky mom who understands and even shares those nerd insights!

She's a LotR and Star Trek fan, and a big Star Wars fan (read lots of the books). She played some of the games on our Sega Genesis. But she's not nearly as geeky as her three children. I think she was embarrassed when we got in the newspaper dressed as Elves standing in line for Two Towers. And she's kind of disgusted at how much time we spend playing computer games. But some geekiness is better than none, yes.

What's the green thing?! Part of a coconut's casing or something...?

It's a seed case from a big tree out behind the condos, but I don't know what the tree is called. It was kind of a nuisance when we had a big barbecue there last year, because there were a lot of seeds falling, and some landed on people's heads.
